Cal S Griffin Piatt out for the year with knee injury

Cal S Griffin Piatt is out for the season with a knee injury.

Piatt, the team's leading tackler, suffered the injury in the Bears' loss to Washington on Saturday and Monday the school said he was out for the season.

It's the second major knee injury for Piatt. He missed the entire 2013 season after tearing his ACL in spring practice. He was playing WR at the time and after his recovery, he returned and moved to safety.

A sophomore, Piatt has 32.5 tackles this season and one sack. He also leads the team with three of Cal's six interceptions. He's the only Cal defensive player with multiple interceptions.

Cal played the game against Washington without two key defensive backs as well. Both Michael Lowe and Stefan McClure missed the game against the Huskies due to injuries. Dykes said Sunday that Lowe, who was recovering from a concussion, was cleared to play against UCLA and he anticipated McClure, who has played two games this season, returning for the UCLA game as well.
